Hints should gradually fade as connections are mastered

Connected to the main concept «uchitsya-legko.rf — learning to read as the decoding of a written code».

At the beginning, a child can simultaneously see an image, hear a word, and see its spelling. This is not a test, but the formation of correspondences between representations.

Once the connection is established, the system hides one of the elements and prompts the user to reconstruct it using the remaining ones. For example:

  • picture → choose the spelling;
  • spelling → choose the picture;
  • picture → name the word;
  • spelling → pronounce the word;
  • familiar spelling elements → reconstruct a new word;
  • new word → reconstruct the meaning or a suitable image.

This implements the principle «Learning to read should go from known supports to the unknown code»: known channels are used as keys and then gradually cease to be necessary.

Which hints can be removed is determined by the representation map from «The written word connects several representations of the same content».

The criterion for mastery is not the ability to immediately repeat a hinted answer, but the ability after some time to independently reconstruct the required representation and transfer the discovered patterns to previously unseen words.

The transition to rapid recognition of familiar spellings is described in «Reading is word recognition and meaning reconstruction, not sequential letter sounding».
