Four types of commercial websites require different AI salespeople

This concept is the central typology within the model “The AI salesperson changes the nature of a commercial website”.

When a website was mainly a self-service point, one could think in terms of “good UX / bad UX” and hardly ever ask what type of trading object it is.

With the advent of the AI salesperson, this is no longer enough. The salesperson must match the economics of the specific trading situation.

The working model identifies four basic types of commercial websites.

1. Ready demand website

The buyer arrives already knowing what they want: exact model, SKU, standard service, clear price.

The main task of the platform is not to get in the way: quickly show availability, terms, and complete the transaction.

Here, expensive consultation often creates no value. The basic role of the AI salesperson is the Dispenser / Order Fulfillment Agent: briefly answer the question, help place the order, and avoid creating unnecessary friction.

2. Weak or unformed demand website

The visitor has arrived, but their purchase intent is still weak. They may be interested in the topic, look at options, react to an offer, but the need has not yet formed into a decision.

The main task is to turn attention into commercial interest and guide it to the next step.

The basic role is the Hunter. They must spot an opportunity, engage, help formulate the need, and lead towards a deal. Their pathological form is the hard-sell pitchman, who optimizes the current sale against the buyer's interests.

3. Repeat relationship website

The core economics are built not on a single receipt, but on the customer returning. These are subscriptions, regular services, utilities, consumables, professional relationships, and local and niche communities.

The main task is to remember the context, maintain trust, and increase the convenience of repeat purchases and LTV.

The basic role is the Host. Their value is measured not only by current conversion, but also by the quality of long-term relationships.

4. Expert website of complex choice

The buyer wants to solve a problem, but is not able to reliably evaluate the options themselves. The cost of a mistake is high, and the product or service requires subject-matter knowledge.

The main task is to reduce uncertainty and the risk of error.

The basic role is the Expert. They ask questions, identify real constraints, filter out unsuitable solutions, and explain trade-offs.

This table describes basic alignment, not a rigid domain classification. A single large website can contain multiple trading situations. For example, a direct transition to a known product card is a ready demand situation, while equipment selection on the same domain is an expert situation.

Therefore, a mature system must be able to determine not just the “type of website in general,” but also the type of the current trading situation and, if necessary, switch the salesperson's role.

The roles themselves are examined in detail in “Four salesperson archetypes: Dispenser, Hunter, Host, and Expert”.

The next question is economics: the cost of the salesperson must match the point of sale, and their success must be measured through incremental profit.

Return to the big picture: The AI salesperson changes the nature of a commercial website.
