AI-consultant and AI-salesperson are different commercial roles
AI-consultant and AI-salesperson are different commercial roles
This concept clarifies the boundary between a network of external information resources and the internal system of a commercial website with an AI-salesperson.
The exact same technological stack can be used both as a consultant and as a salesperson. But the goals of these roles are different.
AI-consultant
The consultant's main duty is to help a person understand the topic and make a good decision.
They can compare the market, explain alternatives, recommend buying nothing, or send the person to another supplier. For a standalone thematic website, this is a natural role: value is created through the quality of advice and trust.
AI-salesperson
Works inside a specific commercial point and represents the seller's interests along with the buyer's interests. Their task is to bring the interaction to a profitable and sustainable deal, if the offer is truly a fit.
If an "independent consultant" is covertly optimized only for conversion to their own store, the thematic network quickly turns into disguised doorwaves and loses trust.
If an agent inside the store pretends to be merely a neutral advisor with no commercial goal, the salesperson role becomes blurred, and it becomes impossible to properly evaluate their incremental result.
Therefore, the agent must have clearly defined roles, interests, and success criteria.
The boundary between attraction and internal sale is discussed in more detail in “External flow and internal sale are different circuits”.
Return to the big picture: AI-salesperson changes the nature of a commercial website.
